Statement

This work examines how vast and uncontainable phenomena; nature, time, light, spirit are encountered within finite and intimate spaces. Through drawing, painting and photography, the momentary is captured and systems are observed. The drawings develop through slow, accumulative mark making and disciplined attention. Recent graphite work allows time, activity, and memory to coexist within the surface. Natural forms; webs, dew drops, and branches are approached as structures where representation and abstraction merge. These images resist fixed scale, shifting between the microscopic and the cosmic, and invite prolonged looking. A restrained visual language is employed in which meaning unfolds gradually rather than through dramatic gesture or spectacle. Containment is central to the work, reflecting the impulse to frame and momentarily hold what is transient and transcendent. The subject matter stems both from the domestic and the adjacent addressing the ‘divine in the commonplace’, arresting moments where meaning is implicit and inter connectedness is a central theme.
